About This Program

Explore how generations of immigrants shaped Philadelphia’s vibrant food scene. Journey through Asian, Latin American, Middle Eastern, African, and Italian influences with authentic recipes, cultural stories, and live cooking sessions from Philly’s diverse neighborhoods.

Philadelphia is a true melting pot where immigrant communities have transformed the city’s cuisine for centuries. From Chinatown and the Italian Market to emerging “Little Africa” in Southwest Philly, Olney’s Southeast Asian corridor, and Mexican influences in South Philly — every dish carries powerful stories of migration, resilience, adaptation, and celebration. In this premium 4-week hybrid program, you’ll discover the rich tapestry of global flavors that define modern Philly. Through 48 hours of engaging live sessions (4 hours, 3 times per week), you’ll learn signature recipes inspired by the city’s immigrant heritage while hearing the real histories behind them — from Ethiopian refugees building vibrant communities in West Philly, to Southeast Asian families opening markets and restaurants, Latin American contributions to the Italian Market area, Middle Eastern specialties, and more. You’ll cook alongside the instructor, receive personalized feedback, and gain practical skills to recreate these dishes at home. The program blends hands-on cooking with cultural education, helping you understand how food connects people across borders and generations. By the end, you’ll have a deeper appreciation for Philly’s multicultural food identity and the confidence to prepare impressive global-inspired meals with authentic techniques. You’ll also earn a Certificate of Completion from Philly Culture Academy. Program Format: Hybrid – Self-paced recorded foundational lessons + live interactive cooking and storytelling sessions via Google Meet (recordings available afterward). Includes shopping lists, recipe PDFs, and private student chat for ongoing support.
